Boilerplate

Founded in 2020, the Academy is an expansion of Wabass, a music program established in 2008 for double bassists. The mission of the Academy is to foster an inclusive and supportive environment where ideas are free flowing between all. This creates a revolving door of expertise, a philosophy the Academy refers to as the "sharing of knowledge." The Academy is designed to provide the future generation of musicians the opportunity to learn from one another, push boundaries, and connect with both local and industry communities, with world-renowned faculty to propel their artistry forward and springboard their careers.

Programs

Honeywell Arts Academy is comprised of three full-scholarship programs for emerging musicians. Led by Artistic Director Ranaan Meyer of the GRAMMY-winning group Time for Three and world-renowned faculty, each week-long program takes place at the Eagles Theatre and culminates in a live performance featuring participants and faculty.

Resonance

Resonance scholars are at the intersection of the pristine technical training of classical musicians and cross-genre fluidity, resulting in an indescribable musical experience. Resonance features faculty mentors Pianist Peter Dugan and members of the GRAMMY-winning trio

Time for Three - Nicolas Kendall,

Charles Yang, and Ranaan Meyer.

Soundboard

Soundboard scholars are international pianists with a focus on standard repertoire.  Soundboard is led by faculty mentors Matti Raekaillo and Peter Dugan as they stretch these classically trained musicians' boundaries to include jazz, funk,

and more.

Wabass

Wabass scholars will dazzle you with the double bass. Faculty mentors

Eric Larson, Ranaan Meyer, and

Hal Robinson curate a wonderful evening of musicianship

and personality.

Grace Yurchuk, Academy Alumni

"I gained a lot of confidence during my time in Indiana and was so inspired by the artists around me that I have not stopped writing since I came back home. Resonance was an exchange of music and information while simultaneously providing us a space to create with no bounds. I still keep in touch with many artists who were in attendance, and we have performed together since our time in Wabash!"

Artistic Director

Ranaan Meyer

Artistic Director of Honeywell Arts Academy, Ranaan Meyer, is a GRAMMY-winning, Emmy-winning, and Gold record double bassist and a founding member and performer with the string trio Time for Three.

During Meyer's final lesson with mentor Hal Robinson (also an Academy faculty mentor), he asked what he could do to pay back the incredible wisdom he had gained over the years. Robinson responded 'simply pay it forward.'

This was a thought that Meyer carried with him as Eric Larson, Meyer, and Robinson came together to dream up an ideal double bass program. In 2008 this collective vision became a reality with the following principles

  • Top-level musicians and individuals

  • Full scholarship for everyone who attends

  • A philosophy called  “sharing of knowledge”

Meyer says, "The 'sharing of knowledge' philosophy creates a foundation that empowers everyone to learn from one another. Through research, we identified this is not always the educational foundation everyone has experienced."  This shared philosophy supports the vision of Honeywell Arts Academy to enrich the opportunity for artistic ambassadors to advance human connection.
